18 しもべたちよ。尊敬の心を込めて主人に服従しなさい。善良で優しい主人に対してだけでなく、横暴な主人に対しても従いなさい。
19 人がもし、不当な苦しみを受けながらも、神の前における良心のゆえに、悲しみをこらえるなら、それは喜ばれることです。
20 罪を犯したために打ちたたかれて、それを耐え忍んだからといって、何の誉れになるでしょう。けれども、善を行っていて苦しみを受け、それを耐え忍ぶとしたら、それは、神に喜ばれることです。
21 あなたがたが召されたのは、実にそのためです。キリストも、あなたがたのために苦しみを受け、その足跡に従うようにと、あなたがたに模範を残されました。
22 キリストは罪を犯したことがなく、その口に何の偽りも見いだされませんでした。
23 ののしられても、ののしり返さず、苦しめられても、おどすことをせず、正しくさばかれる方にお任せになりました。
24 そして自分から十字架の上で、私たちの罪をその身に負われました。それは、私たちが罪を離れ、義のために生きるためです。キリストの打ち傷のゆえに、あなたがたは、いやされたのです。
25 あなたがたは、羊のようにさまよっていましたが、今は、自分のたましいの牧者であり監督者である方のもとに帰ったのです。

18 Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.
19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering
because they are conscious of God.
20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.
21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
25 For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the
Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
