１ペテロ３：１３〜１７
13 それでは、あなたがたが熱心に善を行うなら、だれがあなたがたに害を加えるでしょう。
14 しかし、たとい義のために苦しむことがあっても、あなたがたは幸いです。人々の脅かしを恐れたり、心を騒がせたりしてはいけません。
15 むしろ、心の中でキリストを主としてあがめなさい。そして、あなたがたのうちにある望みについて説明を求める人には、だれにでも、いつでも弁明できる用意をしていなさい。ただし、優しく、敬いの心をもって、
16 立派な良心を保ちなさい。そうすれば、キリストにあるあなたがたの正しい生き方をそしる人たちが、あなたがたを中傷することで、恥じ入るようになるのです。
17 もし神のみこころなら、善を行って苦しみを受けるほうが、悪を行って苦しみを受けるよりも良いのです。

14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.”
15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
17 For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
